Court deadline counting audit trail

For court deadlines and filing timelines, I keep the arithmetic separate from the legal conclusion.

The audit trail I use has four parts:

  • Identify the trigger date and the exact rule or statute used.
  • Confirm whether the count is calendar days, court days, or business days.
  • Note weekends, court holidays, and any local-rule adjustment.
  • Save the final date with the source checked, not just the arithmetic.

A date counter helps catch arithmetic mistakes, but I still compare the result against the applicable court rules and attorney guidance before relying on it. Reference calculator: court deadline calculator
